GLOSSARY
With so many testing programs out there, here's a quick guide
to the ones you're most likely to hear about:
API: This
is California's way of gauging achievement in individual schools.
The state uses a point system from 200 to 1,000. The score
is calculated using results from the STAR program and from
the high school exit exam.
STAR:
This is a series of tests that assesses student achievement
in topics such as math, English and science.
SAT:
The College Board administers this test Scores are used by
some colleges in determining admissions.
ACT:
Another test used by colleges
for admissions decisions.
HIGH SCHOOL EXIT EXAM:
Beginning with the Class of 2006, California
will withhold diplomas from students who can't pass this test
